Small Things That Make a Big Difference

At Project Nic, we’ve learned that change doesn’t always arrive in grand gestures or perfect timing. More often, it begins quietly—with something so small, it’s easy to overlook. A pair of shoes that finally fit. A clean shirt that helps a child feel confident walking into school. A backpack sturdy enough to last the entire year.

These small gifts ripple outward into something far bigger.

Before coming to one of our shelters, a young boy had been sharing shoes with a cousin. Different sizes, different needs, and a daily rotation that meant someone always went without. One small donation solved that problem—not just with a pair of shoes, but with a sense of dignity, comfort, and belonging.

Stories like his remind us why the “small things” matter.

Because it isn’t really about the item itself.
It’s about what that item helps a child do: walk to school without pain, take part in recess, show up for opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.

Every small gift shifts the weight a child carries.
Every donation—no matter the size—creates room for joy, stability, and a sense of being seen.

Thank you for making space in your heart for these small but powerful moments of care. You’re helping meet needs in ways that matter more than most people ever realize. And together, one quiet act at a time, we’re creating a foundation of support that lets children thrive.

More stories like this are unfolding across all seven of our shelters, and we’re grateful you’re here to be part of them.
