As we move through the early months of 2026, we want to share an update on the shelters Project Nic currently supports — and the thoughtful growth taking place behind the scenes.
Right now, Project Nic provides ongoing care for 276 children across our partner shelters. These numbers reflect the children currently receiving support today, before upcoming expansions planned for later this year.
Each child represents daily care — meals, education, safe housing, clothing, faith and hope possible through stewardship and trusted partnerships.
Looking Ahead With Purpose
In 2026, we are preparing for meaningful growth in two of our shelters.
Plans are underway to expand the reach of both the Nepal and Myanmar shelters, allowing more children to be welcomed into safe, stable environments. When these expansions are complete, we anticipate supporting dozens more children, increasing our overall reach significantly.
This growth is being approached carefully and responsibly — with attention given not only to capacity, but to sustainability. Expansion only takes place when long-term care can be supported, not simply when space becomes available.
Building With Care
In Myanmar, expansion will require the construction of a new shelter building to safely house additional children. We are grateful to share that funding for this building project has already been secured through designated partners.
Importantly, these building funds are entirely separate from Project Nic’s annual fundraising goals. Funds given toward shelter construction are restricted specifically for that purpose and are stewarded independently from operational support.
This separation ensures clarity, accountability, and protection for the care children rely on every day.
A Season of Change
At the same time, we are walking through changes that come with international work.
Due to circumstances outside of Project Nic’s control and increasing logistical barriers, we will not be able to continue direct support for the China shelter in 2026. While this was not an easy decision, we are grateful to know this shelter has other systems of support in place to sustain its care.
We trust that the same hand that guided our connection there continues to watch over the children and caregivers at this shelter.
Where We Stand Today
As of now, Project Nic supports children across multiple countries, including shelters in:
- Thailand
- Nepal
- Myanmar
- Taiwan
- India
By the end of 2026, we expect this work to grow — with care extending to more than 350 children across seven shelters in these five countries.
This growth is driven by readiness — ensuring children are welcomed into environments prepared to care for them well.
