Meet the Heart Behind Project Nic

Every movement is powered by people—quiet, faithful, generous people who carry the mission forward one loving action at a time. Today, we want to share a glimpse of the hearts behind Project Nic: the volunteers, donors, and partners who keep showing up.

This week, we’re spotlighting a longtime volunteer, Penny Sage. Penny has been a steady source of encouragement and kindness within our community. She helps gather donations, organize inventory, prepare for our annual auction, and speak life into the mission at every turn.

When asked why she serves, she said something simple and beautiful:

“Helping a child feel safe and cared for is one of the most worthwhile things we can do. Jesus taught us to love and protect orphans. If I can play even a small part in that, count me in.”

People like this are the heartbeat of Project Nic.

They remind us that generosity isn’t only measured in dollars—it’s measured in time, energy, prayer, compassion, advocacy, and a willingness to do the unseen work that keeps our shelters operating day after day.

We are surrounded by an incredible community of people who believe that every child deserves love, safety, and an opportunity to grow. And every time someone steps forward—whether it’s volunteering, donating, sponsoring a child, sharing our posts, or simply cheering us on—they help us carry that mission farther.

To everyone who stands with us: thank you.
Your heart makes this work possible.
Your kindness reaches across oceans.
And your generosity continues to write new chapters of hope in children’s lives.

If you’d like to share your “why,” we’d love to hear it.
Your reason may inspire someone else to take their first step into this mission, too.
